Other works of a similar nature to those already described, but of less magnitude, were also undertaken, and arrangements were in progress for pumping water into the Jaitam tunnel from a stream at Laitam Juk. For transporting the water, two lighters were kindly lent by the Superintendent of the Semun-Company; five others were hired from the Godown Company and local Authorities, all of them being fitted with bulkheads and otherwise adapted for the purpose.
A scheme was considered for obtaining a supply of river water from Moto Mhew, distant about four miles from the colony, and transporting it in tank steamers to be chartered for the purpose, but, in addition to being very costly, it was found that it would be impracticable to maintain a regular daily supply, and the scheme was therefore abandoned.
